You Know Martha Stewart Swears Like a Sailor

Hot glue.
Sewing machines.
Pins.
Sharp scissors.
Impatience at not getting things done right the first time; or when NOTHING fits together like it SHOULD.

Those would be just a few reasons why I KNOW Martha swears. I KNOW she does. Ever touch hot glue? It HURTS. LIke a BIATCH!

I wanted to preface this as I explain my own foul mouth this past week as I worked on a Moses baby bed lining. First, I have to say, I like to sew. I like crafts. I REALLY like making things for babies. I also like things that I can sew in one day. I like instant gratification from my work. INSTANT I SAY! That is why I haven’t learned to knit or crotchet beyond what I know how. It would take too long to make anything.

I was making this lining –without a pattern. I am good at winging things. I can figure things out from an original copy and say–hmmmm….this SHOULD work. So, I begin the process. Originally I used the boy lining to see how it would go together. Mistake #1. That material was different. Then, I decided, I can do it by measuring the basket. Mistake #2. The bottom of the basket has a slope, so it didn’t work as well as I had hoped.

So, I winged it. I used ribbon to go around the handles because the material didn’t have stretch like the prior one, so it had to be “pulled up”. Needless to say, I was swearing. I had to rip out seams because it just wasn’t working. It was hard to measure because there is elastic around the base to hold it over the top of the basket–the handles require openings to push through. I bought bias tape at first thinking that would be enough to protect the handle openings. Mistake #3. As I was doing this part, I hear from the peanut gallery–aka, Jase–”There sure is a lot of swearing going on in there.”

That just made me swear more. So, made Amy hold it in place while I pinned the ribbon around and sewed it on. I then made tie-backs with the ribbon to hold it around the handles. I think it looked ok and more feminine. I really struggled to give it to my friend without it being perfect. I am sorta a perfectionist. I LIKE things to not have sew marks that are not straight, but alas, it was very difficult with a round item without stetchy material and no pattern.

Then, making a sheet. Let’s just say. Never done it before. More swearing.

The end result–I really liked it. I LOVE pink/brown together and polka-dots. I hope she liked it too. Time wise, it wasn’t too bad, more just me wanting it to be awesome. HA!

Sorry about the quality of the pictures. I used my camera phone. Not such good light and it doesn’t have a flash!
