Armed With Only a Flashlight

I am packed. Everything I need for three days of unknown weather is shoved in a 2 foot by 1 and a half foot suitcase. Longjohns. Jeans. Extra socks. Leg warmers. If I were smart, I would figure out a way to smuggle in the stuff that REALLY keeps you warm.

I like nature. I do. I like flowers. I like trees. I especially like waterfalls—when I have my camera is fantastic. I am not really fond of bugs. Spiders. Freezing rain and snow; while standing outside in a rain slicker hoping for sun. I am a fair-nature-weather-fan. BUT. I am braving it. I have my spankin new sleeping bag and my flashlight and I am READY for fifth grade sleep away camp.

I figure three days surrounded by children, rain, and camp food should probably keep me a little bit wired, a little bit tired, and hopefully, a little bit skinny. Oh, doesn’t freezing help shed pounds?

So, I am armed with my flash light to catch rampant high school camp counselors as they sneak out to the trees for a love tryst or something in the night. I am thinking that they could easily knock me down, steal my flashlight and leave me for the camp ghost. I will let you know what happens on that one.

Did I mention that my son is going to? Or that he is the fifth grader and I am the volunteer teacher who wanted to experience this with her son? I guess it sounded a lot better in August when the sun was shining and I was excited about seeing the lighthouse–oh that is currently under renovation in the wind and wet. I am not sure what happened to my forsight there. Clouded by sunshine maybe?

Alright campers. Line ‘em up. I head out at the buttcrack of dawn. Where is my whistle!?
