Casting Call: The Oldest Asian Man Ever

Today, I hung out with my friend Tiff. We had wine. We had take-and-bake pizza from Papa Murphy’s. We sat in my living room and flipped through the Comcast free movies. We chose KARATE KID 2. Seroiusly.

Remember this?

I am pretty sure since I thought Ralph Macchio was HOT back in the day, that I am one of the oldest, Teen Beat, BOP, Tiger Beat, fans alive. I am not joking.I am sure I had a poster of him with his pink/black flannel shirt and thought it was COOL! Not to mention he was like 23 and I was 14.That doesn’t matter. He LOOKED 16. It was some sort of love that was meant to be. Tragically—he is like 50 now and it didn’t happen.

Mr. Miyagi was very sad that his dad–the oldest Asian man EVER was going to pass and he and Sato would just have to fight it out as old men. Seriouly. But then, Daniel-son had to go and be honorable during the storm and fix it all except for the jealous nephew (insert you-tube clip).

Man giggles later–over camp shirts, muscles, Peter Cetera, and wow–that hair has some mousee and HOLY look at those overalls… OH and hey, did he lean his head to the side to kiss her? type things… made for a very wonderful-evening.

I had many-a flashbacks of the theater and Shawna Matthews as we watched this and sighed over Ralph Macchio. I think I had  a few glimpses with Tiff as to why I thought he was cute. Oh, and DUH-dumb type.

It all added to his charm.

Sigh.

I used to love Ralph Macchio. I remember watching the first Karate Kid in the movie theater and just being infatuated. Even now, I’ll watch if I catch it showing on TV, although he looks much more awkward than I remember him. And Elizabeth Shue seems like way too much woman for that skinny kid.
