Goodbye

Today it is raining,
the wet mist drops down
as though the sky
somehow feels my pain,
and sheds the tears that I can’t seem to let
fall.

Today I stand here
feeling myself get soaked
hoping that the cold,
wet, rain,
will freeze my soul,
so then,
I wouldn’t have to feel.

Today I am broken
and I am not sure to
ever mend.
I touch my hand to my heart
and know that a spot has
been taken away.

Today I wish
for tears
so the ache in my heart
could ease.
I wish for something
other than the emptiness
that has stolen my very essence
and my belief that all friends
last forever.

Today I stand
in the rain
broken
empty
wishing
as I feel the hot
tears slide
down
and whisper
goodbye.
